Vegetation Management Technician (Seasonal) - Yellowhead County

Position Summary

Reporting to the Agricultural Services Coordinator, the Vegetation Management Technician is a seasonal field position primarily responsible for the application of pesticide on private and public lands in accordance with the Legislation and County policies.

Position Responsibilities

  • Safe operation of County vehicles and equipment such as pickup trucks, ATV/UTVs and trailers;
  • Applies herbicides and performs other physical and mechanical methods of weed and pest control such as weed whacking and hand picking, as indicated by weather conditions;
  • Assist with surveys and inspections under the Weed Control Act and Agricultural Pests Act as assigned;
  • Provide information on weed and pest control methods to Yellowhead County residents and stakeholders;
  • Maintain accurate records of weed and pest control applications, both hand-written and electronic, using a computer mapping system;
  • Perform basic maintenance and cleaning of vehicles, equipment and tools;
  • Maintains inventory of pesticide;
  • Lead in providing the annual Vegetation Management Program, and the Pesticide Container Collection Program;
  • Complete work site and vehicle hazard inspections as required;
  • Keep informed on weed and pest identification and control methods; and
  • Complete all other duties as assigned.


Qualification, Knowledge, Skill & Ability Requirements

  • Valid Class 5 (or equivalent) Driver’s License with fewer than 6 demerits;
  • Completion of Defensive Driving;
  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent;
  • Must be 18 years of age or older;
  • Post-secondary agriculture related training or certification considered an asset;
  • Strong communication and documentation skills;
  • Valid Standard First Aid/CPR;
  • Physical aptitude and ability to safely lift to a maximum of 50lbs; and
  • Experience with the application of herbicide considered an asset.


Working Environment

  • 80% of work duties are conducted outdoors in all weather conditions;
  • 20% of work duties are administrative;
  • Potential interaction with domestic and/or wild animals;
  • Physical exertion and extensive walking required;
  • Frequent and/or daily driving required;
  • Frequent use and possible exposure to herbicides; and
  • Public contact may be confrontational.


The hourly wage is $28.02 to $30.52. This is a seasonal position. Position dates are approximately May 4, 2026 to August 28, 2026.
This position is based out of Wildwood with travel throughout Yellowhead County as required.


IMPORTANT NOTE: Applicants must include a cover letter, resume, 2 written references and driver's abstract to be considered for an interview. Defensive Driving completion is required (5 year validity).
Successful applicants will be required to provide a Police Information Check with satisfactory results.
