Reporting to the Agricultural Fieldman and will respond to the concerns and inquiries of municipal ratepayers regarding agricultural, environmental, invasive species and problem wildlife matters, and supervisory responsibility for all Agriculture Service Board staff. Public speaking, and workshop PowerPoint presentation experience would be an asset. 

• To be successful in this position, you will require an agriculture degree/diploma or with equivalent training and experience and have a working knowledge of the agricultural industry including knowledge of weeds in both identification and various aspects of control and plant identification. 
• You will also need to hold a valid Pesticide Applicators License or the ability to obtain it, within 6 months of employment; a valid Class 5 or 3 Driver’s License with a satisfactory Drivers Abstract, Criminal Record Check and Standard First Aid. 
• The successful candidate requires strong public relations and excellent verbal and written communication skills and can organize and prioritize workload.
•  Has proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
• Experience with GIS is considered an asset. 
• All County of Warner personnel are governed by the County Health & Safety Policy. 

Assistant Fieldman shall be required to perform other duties not contained herein that are required from time to time due to the nature of the position.

Under direction from the Agricultural Manager, the Seasonal Problem Wildlife Specialist assists the Problem Wildlife Specialists with public concerns/complaints related to problem wildlife affecting agricultural production, and monitors and responds to drainage issues affecting municipal infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Carry out control work for problem wildlife on County property and Crown lands under the authority of a damage permit, including the removal of beaver dams in road right-of-ways and in conjunction with the Public Works department.

2. Respond and mitigate livestock predation and harassment issues caused by coyotes on a complaint-based priority, while also monitoring and maintaining the coyote control device and poison inventory and security.

3. Maintain accurate files and inventory of complaints, actions taken, pests removed, control devices, and equipment.

4. Coordinate with the Federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans, as well as Alberta Environment Fish and Wildlife, providing reporting as required from each agency.

5. Maintain trapping equipment for proper usage and most humane affect. Adapt new humane trapping techniques and equipment as required.

6. Liaise with Alberta Agriculture Rural Development Pest Specialist and Alberta Environment Sustainable Resource Development, Fish and Wildlife Division.

7. Follow safe work practices in accordance to all County policies and procedures.

Key Qualifications & Skills:

• Experience in controlling problem wildlife in rural areas.

• Valid Driver’s license

• Current blasting certificate or ability to obtain one.

• Knowledge and experience in the humane trapping of wildlife and other control methods.

• Knowledge of lifestyles and habits of predators and other vertebrate pests. • Beaver trapping experience.

• Ability to maintain exceptional public relations while performing duties.

• Ability to lift 50 pounds and work outside in a variety of conditions.  

This position is a 4-month term with the possibility of an extension. The hourly salary range for this position is $26.01 – $30.11.

Reporting to the Manager, Agricultural Services, the Agricultural Services Supervisor is responsible for the successful delivery, in line with policy and within budget, of the Agricultural Services Control Programs, including but not limited to vegetative management, weed and pest control, and problem wildlife programming.

Reporting to the Manager, Agriculture Services, this position is responsible for tasks to Agriculture out of the Fort Assiniboine Office.  The Technician is involved in the roadside spraying and seeding program, weed inspection, and responding to pest control requests.  Duties may include operating equipment, performing general labour and maintaining County-owned property.

This is a temporary position available until the return of an employee on medical leave.
