Purpose of the position
The position will be responsible for (but not limited to):
  • Operating large and small equipment (cut-off saw, brush saw, power auger, sprayers, pumps, generators, and skid steers) in accordance with municipal safety procedures and policy
  • Assisting in coordinating the department's pest control schedule and field operation
  • Mixing and calculating pesticide rates
  • Surveying application areas for pesticide results
  • Handling agricultural chemicals safely
  • Conducting service and/or maintenance on equipment
  • Assisting in calibration of sprayers and components on a routine schedule
  • Assisting in brushing, stone, and debris removal
  • Calibrating seeder and fertilizer spreaders, digital meters, and equipment on a routine schedule
  • Attending and participates in monthly departmental meetings
  • Performing necessary County landscape maintenance as requested by supervisor
  • Assisting Agricultural Fieldman with drafting documents as required
  • Assisting with Community garden maintenance and upkeep as required
  • Assisting Agricultural Fieldman with Agricultural Service Board Equipment Rental program
  • Assisting at County landfills and transfer stations as requested
  • Working shift work and performs on call duties when required
  • Assisting in organizing and hosting occasional evening and weekend events
  • Records management for spraying, pesticide inventory, sales, and use, weed control functions, incidents/near misses, formal inspections of chemical storage
  • Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor

Qualifications:
  • Grade 12 required. Some relevant technical certifications preferred. Education in the Agricultural sector would be an asset.
  • 1- 2 years relevant experience preferred. Experience in the Agricultural sector would be an asset.
  • Combination of equivalent education and experience may be considered.
  • Possess or have the ability to obtain a Pesticide Applicator Certificate as soon as possible.
  • Experience in operating and maintaining large and small agricultural and industrial equipment (i.e. cut-off saw, brush saw, power auger, sprayers, pumps, generator, and skid steer)
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and freely move.
  • Excellent communications (verbal and written) and public relations skills.
  • Experience in reading municipal maps.
  • Ability to work as part of a team or be comfortable working alone.
  • Ability to use computer devices.
  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment in all weather conditions.
  • Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Subject to provide Driver’s Abstract and Criminal Record Check that meets the satisfaction of the County.
