• Administer the Alberta Weed Control Act on public and private property which includes investigating landowner concerns, performing inspections, identifying regulated weeds, preparing correspondences, issuing notices, and arranging for enforcement activities as required.
• Inspect properties for compliance with the Landscape Standards outlined in Sturgeon County Community Standards Bylaw 1433/19; issue Enforcement Orders and arrange for enforcement activities as required
• Communicate with landowners , internal departments and other stakeholders regarding the impact of weeds and weed management requirements and assist in the development of multi-year weed management plans.
• Maintain detailed records of all work activities, including interactions with landowners.
• Perform vegetation management activities as required such as: herbicide application, mechanical weed control, and handpicking.
• perform other related assigned duties as required.
• Adhere to applicable responsibilities and accountabilities as outlined in the Sturgeon County Health and Safety Management System.

• Ability to work effectively independently or as part of a team.
• Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and courteously with supervisors, co-workers and the public.
• Familiarity with the Alberta Township Survey (ATS) System.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and to prepare written reports.
• Knowledge of pesticides, agronomic practices, and an agricultural background would be an asset.
• Ability to identify noxious and prohibited noxious weed species.
• Strong research and problem-solving skills.

• Completion of some post-secondary studies in agriculture, environmental sciences or a related field.
• A current Industrial Pesticide Applicator certification or Authorized Assistant certification or the ability to obtain.
• Valid class 5 driver’s license with an acceptable driver’s abstract.
• Standard First-Aid or the ability to obtain.
• Defensive Driving certificate.
• Ability to wear a half mask with organic carbon filters when handling herbicides, and completion of a Respiratory User Screening Form as per CSA Z94.4-11.
• Ability to perform medium lifting of 25 kilograms.
• Experience driving a pickup on gravel roads would be considered an asset.
